Ensuring Tourist Safety: Key Points at Lagoa City Council Meeting

Last 21 May 2024, a meeting was held by the city council of Lagoa on the safety of tourists visiting the Benagil Cave.

Authorities like the captain of the maritime police in Portimão, representatives from the Lagoa city council, Algarve tourism office, and the Apecate, led the meeting which was attended by representatives from 190 tourism companies operating around Benagil cave in the Algarve.

The captain of maritime police in Portimão presented several safety instructions and scenarios for tourists visiting the Benagil cave.

Benagil cave has been growing in popularity over the last few years and attracts an ever-growing number of tourists every summer. Because of this, the safety of tourists was a critical concern for Benagil to remain open to visitors.

In the meeting, some points were raised from some of the tourism companies that were in attendance.

One particular idea was to promote the other less well-known parts of the Algarve coastline. The Algarve actually has many other beautiful sea caves and secret beaches aside from Benagil, which often becomes overcrowded especially in the summer months.

We here in Algarviews know a lot of these hidden gems that dot the southern coast of Portugal. Our goal is to share and promote these underrated spots with more people, and let them discover the real Algarve. Sure, Benagil Cave is the most famous spot, but come with us and you’ll be amazed at all the other scenic destinations!
